Parable
by Edgar F. Magnin

God does things in his own peculiar way.

When he wants a liberator, he goes into adesert and picks out a shepherd who stutters. When he is seeking a great artist to singpoems of faith, he picks out another shepherd, David, and makes him a king. When heis looking for the first king of Israel, he picksSaul, a farmer boy plowing between oxen.

One day God parted the clouds with hishands and looked down. He said to the angels, "Do you see what I see?" One of themsaid, "All I see is a little log cabin in Kentucky, and I hear the cry of a baby." Then God said,"Go down and kiss that child for he will be anemancipator and leader of men."

So the angel went down and kissed thechild, and the child grew up. And one day hestood on the battlefield at Gettysburg andmade a speech. He said, "The world will littlenote nor long remember what we say here."But the world does remember and alwayswill. And this is the glory of America andmankind.
