Constitutional Party History

On November 8, 1994 shock waves reverberated across the nation when Peg Luksik and Jim Clymer received over 460,000 votes in their independent run for Governor and Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania. This was the highest vote percentage received by an independent in a state race in Pennsylvania in nearly 100 years. It also marked an unusually high vote nationally for a large industrial state.

We believe this represents a permanent shift in the political landscape. People in increasing numbers are willing to kick the habit of voting the party line and are instead voting their principles.

In Pennsylvania, independent candidates are required to list the name of a "political body" under which to run. Although no political organization existed under that name, we chose the name "Constitutional Party" to emphasize our commitment to restore and renew the principles upon which our Pennsylvania and U.S. constitutions were drafted.

Because of the number of votes garnered m the 1994 election, the Constitutional Party was certified as a minor political party.

It is now possible to register in the Constitutional Party, and momentum is building for it to become a dominant party in Pennsylvania.

On March 18, 1995 a small group of those most active in the campaign were invited to an organizational meeting to decide the future of the effort begun in the 1994 campaign. At that meeting it was decided to organize as the Constitutional Party of Pennsylvania and confront the issues as a contrasting alternative to the two shades of gray represented by the major parties.

Shortly after organizing in the summer of 1995, the organizing committee voted to affiliate with the US Taxpayers Party nationally. This will allow us to support Presidential candidates and work nationally with those seeking to advance the same principles of governance that we are promoting.

The groundwork is now laid. Together we can build a political party that will promote and elect people whose allegiance is to God and the principles of government embodied in our constitutions and the Declaration of Independence, rather than to a political party dominated by those committed to the New World Order, determined to deny our God-given rights to life, liberty, and property.
