- The American experience of liberty is based largely on the conviction that fundamental human rights are given directly by God to each and every human being. Civil governments are instituted among men to protect these God given rights. When politicians pretend that civil government is the source of these rights, or whenever they would presume to abrogate or limit the same, they lay the axe to the very root of our freedoms.
- Washington does not know best. There is far more wisdom in millions of Americans making decisions for their own families and communities then there is in bureaucrats and politicians that have never even driven through our neighborhoods.
- Productive Americans, not politicians, have the primary right to enjoy the fruit of their own labor and to share it charitably as THEY see fit.
- As House Majority Leader Dick Armey reminds us: "No one spends someone else's money as wisely as he spends his own."
- The tax code should be reformed to raise revenues as efficiently and fairly as possible while lowering barriers to economic growth. The tax code should not be used as a tool for social engineering.
- Governments do not raise children, parents do.
- When you or your children are afraid to walk the streets or go to the local park at night - government has failed at the most basic level.
- Violent crime should be punished and prevented rather than explained away.
- All able bodied welfare recipients should be required to work in order to receive benefits. We need to replace the failed liberal welfare state with an opportunity society.
- Civil government should promote equal opportunity not enforce equal outcomes.
- Citizen statesmen are to be trusted above career politicians. We should enact term limits and eliminate congressional pensions.
- Foreign policy should be based on promoting free trade and peace through strength. We need a U.S. foreign policy not a U.N. foreign policy.
- Leaders fix problems. Politicians fix blame. We need more leaders.
- Character matters.
- Tort reform should benefit businesses and consumers instead of predatory trial lawyers.
- Empowered to choose, our senior citizens will do far more to improve Medicare than an army of federal bureaucrats. Senior citizens deserve real choice in their medical coverage to include Medical Savings Accounts.
- Career politicians tell us that we cannot afford tax cuts that are wide, permanent, and deep. I believe that we cannot afford the career politicians.
- The ten most frightening words in the English language are still: "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help you."
- The American economy is the strongest and most innovative in the world. No nation on earth can match the productivity and ingenuity of the American worker. Freed from the shackles imposed by the political class, productive Americans will enjoy an almost undreamed of standard of living in the new economy.
- Our future is even brighter than our past. This nation conceived in liberty continues to be the envy and hope of the world. It is in our nation's character to invent the future. We will cure diseases and role back poverty. We will build stronger families and safer communities. We will advance peace and justice for all mankind. We will never give up. The call of freedom will always light a fire in the minds of men. It is our calling. It is our heritage. It is our destiny. Together, let us hold high the torch of freedom until the entire world is set ablaze. As Ronald Reagan reminded us: "It is right for us to dream such things, after all - we are Americans."
